چکیده

The Pareto-efficient combustion (PEC) framework is extended for predicting transient ignition in turbulent flames. PEC formulation utilizes a drift term to assess the compliance of specific submodels with underlying flow-field representation. This consider autoignition delay as process interest, and time homogeneous isobaric reactor utilized surrogate. Combustion models considered are steady-state flamelet/progress variable (FPV) model finite-rate chemistry (FRC) model. Large-eddy simulations performed proposed (PEC-AI) demonstrated identify localized regions that require description order accurately capture dynamics. employed examine stochasticity environment by performing ensemble construct probability distributions locations. Comparisons measurements show ability PEC-AI capturing dynamics flame lift-off through drift-term adaptation comparable accuracy FRC at reduced cost. These results illustrate versatility targeting different response functions not only include species emissions but also processes.

An LES/PDF study of a turbulent lifted ethylene jet flame in a heated coflow

We report a large-eddy simulation (LES)/probability density function (PDF) modeling study of a turbulent lifted ethylene jet flame in a heated air coflow, using a 22-species reduced chemical mechanism. In this flame, the central ethylene jet is ignited by the heated coflow, and the lifted jet flame base stabilization reaches a statistically stationary state. In this LES/PDF study, the filtered ...

Characterization and Sensitivity Analysis of a Turbulent Diffusion Flame in Diluted Hot Coflow

Large-eddy simulation of a jet flame in a hot diluted coflow has been performed. The burner under consideration was operated in the moderate and intense low oxygen dilution (MILD) combustion regime, and utilizes a three-stream feed system to supply fuel, diluted coflow, and air to the burner (Dally, B. B., Karpetis, A. N., and Barlow, R. S., Proc. Combust. Inst., Vol. 29, 2002, pp. 1147–1154). ...

Transient soot dynamics in turbulent nonpremixed ethylene–air counterflow flames

The dynamics of soot formation in turbulent ethylene–air nonpremixed counterflow flames is studied using direct numerical simulation (DNS) with a semi-empirical soot model and the discrete ordinate method (DOM) as a radiation solver. Transient characteristics of soot behavior are studies by a model problem of flame interaction with turbulence inflow at various intensities. The interaction betwe...

Stability and Liftoff of Non-premixed Large Hydrocarbon Flames in MILD Conditions

The Moderate or Intense Low-oxygen Dilution (MILD) combustion regime has received interest from the industrial furnace and gas turbine engine industries due to attractive properties of reduced NOx emissions and high thermal efficiency. MILD combustion is characterized by low oxygen concentrations (i.e. 3-9% by volume) and high reactant temperatures. The focus of the current study was to underst...

Ignition in 40 kW co-axial turbulent diffusion oxy-coal jet flames

This paper is directed towards understanding how composition of the coal transport medium (primary CO2 and O2) affects the observed ignition stand-off distance in 40 kW co-axial turbulent diffusion, oxy-coal flames, supported in a specially designed combustion test rig, rated at 100 kW. First, a methodology to define and quantify the observed ignition stand-off distance in laboratory combustor ...
